Your Classic City Rollergirls are officially one of the top 100 women’s flat track roller derby teams in the world!
After finishing the 2017 season ranked #114, a 4-0 start to the 2018 season sees the All-Stars sitting at #94 out of 349 ranked WFTDA teams, as of the May 31 rankings.
“It makes me so proud to see CCRG break the top 100, ” said All-Stars blocker Kill Easy. “When I first started we were consistently ranked around 150 and had dreams of being D2, which at the time was 40-100. A few years ago, we finally set a goal to break 100, but fell short. This past year we changed the goal to improve all skaters abilities and in doing that we’ve accomplished something we were unable to do just a few years ago. I think being rank 94 really shows what a team can do when we build up each individual skater.”
The rankings are calculated using point differential, aka how much a team wins or loses a bout by, as well as the strength/ranking of their opposing team. For a more thorough explanation of how the rankings work, you can check out this post by All-Stars team captain, Cirque Du Slay. This ranking officially qualifies CCRG as a D2 team, though only teams in spots 40-60 qualify for the D2 championships.
“Being ranked under 100 was something we talked about a few years ago like it was a pipe dream, something to aim at but not something people thought was going to be possible in a transient town like Athens. To have accomplished it finally this year is amazing! For me, this means that our next step is to make it to D2 championships!” said Cirque du Slay.
“I’m so proud of how hard everyone has worked both individually and as a team to make this happen, but I know we won’t stop here!” Kill Easy says.
To support CCRG, you can check out our next home bout vs. Atlanta Rumble B’s on June 30th with tickets available in advance here.
