SO YOU WANNABE A ROLLERGIRL
Thanks for your interest in joining Classic City Rollergirls! We're always looking for more skaters, refs, or anyone who wants to help us make all-girl flat track derby in Athens a success. Here is some information we hope you'll find helpful.
Skate-a-Round USA on Cherokee Road (behind the Lowe’s on the Eastside) has lots of open skate times to brush up on your skating before try-outs. You can find their hours on their Web site. Haven't skated in a while? No problem! We'll help you get started. Many of our rollergirls attend open skates and will be happy to teach you the skills you will need for derby. If you do not own skates, rentals are available for $3.
While you are working on your skills at open skate, we highly recommend that you volunteer with the league. This is an excellent way for you to get to know us and for us to get to know you! It will also help you get a better understanding of the sport before attending practice.
Once you feel you are ready to try out, email our recruitment head of skate. We will schedule a time for you to show us what you've got. Once you have passed tryouts, you can join us at practices. We currently practice on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7-9 pm at Skate-a-Round USA.
If you have safety gear (mouth guards, knee pads, elbow pads, and wrist guards), be sure to bring them with you to practice. If you don't have any, let us know and we can lend you some. Before skating with us, you'll need to sign a waiver agreeing not to hold us or the rink liable in case of injury. For this reason, we're only open to female skaters age 18 and over.
Like the sound of roller derby, but you aren't sure exactly what it is? Here are some helpful links to get you started:

For more information or if you have any additional questions, please email our recruitment head of skate, and we'll be sure to get them answered. We also have information available on our Web forum where you can talk to other members of the league. Please check out our current league policies. When you come to practice we can also get you set up with some more detailed information on questions you may have about safety, skates, or league policies. Practices are open to skaters ONLY- no spouses, boyfriends, girlfriends, parents, or children. If you are interested in being involved with Classic City Rollergirls as a non-rollergirl (refs, announcers, sponsors, etc.), please contact us so we can schedule a time for you to attend.
