Night of the Skating Dead

Night of the Skating Dead Can’t get enough of the ladies from CCRG? Then check out HeadsWillRoll’s latest film production, RollerZombies, to be released in early March. RollerZombies is a zombie comedy short with lots of derby action starring some of your favorite derby girls (and refs!) from CCRG, ARG (Atlanta Rollergirls) and the Soul City Sirens (from Augusta, GA). You can catch Thrashley, Poke A. Dot, TenderizeHer, Melony Fistdemeanor, Mosh-ya Brady, Rudy Huxtabrawl, Zig Zag, Nell Bomb, Knockin’ Bootsy and Janna Da Slamma in the RollerZombies trailer, premiering at the Women in Horror Festival at Cine Athens on February 27th. You’ll also recognize the familiar surroundings of CCRG’s home rink Skate-A-Round, which served as the primary location for a large portion of the shoot, and our stellar reffing crew and announcer, Sweet Willie Teabag.

2010 Boot Camp Round Up – Try Outs Feb 1!

Over 20 rollergirl hopefuls came out for our winter boot camp this month, some traveling from as far as Gainesville. Each skater made improvements by leaps and bounds over the four-day intensive workshop. CCRG is so pumped to have such a infusion of new skaters to the league’s ranks. "This is one of the largest and most enthusiastic groups of potential skaters the league has ever seen!" says Melony Fistdemeanor, recruitment head-of-skate. "We’re all excited to see these girls progressing quickly and hope to be skating with some of them later this season."

Thanks to all the new skaters for sticking with it through the falls, bumps, bruises and sore muscles. We are so happy to have you on board! Remember, CCRG accepts new skaters at any time. If you have questions about joining the league or volunteering, please contact Melony at recruitment@classiccityrollergirls.com.

MLK Day of Service

Several rollergirls were on hand at the Greenway restoration project on MLK, Jr. Day of Service. Our crew was part of over 1000 volunteers that helped throughout the city. We used our derby muscles to pull up invasive plants, pick up trash, and even learned how to operate a privet puller. The agency leading this project is working to help reduce the amount of pollution in the Athens area waterways and will continue clean up and replanting efforts along the Greenway. CCRG is proud to have participated in this important day of service.

Check presentation to Hands on Northeast Georgia

League Presents Check to HandsOn Northeast Georgia

As the 2009 community outreach partner, HandsOn received a portion of ticket sales from each CCRG home bout. The league presented a check for $400 to HandsOn Northeast Georgia at the MLK, Jr. Day of Service program on Jan. 18th. HandsOn, a program of Community Connection of Northeast Georgia, helps individuals, families and corporate and community groups find flexible volunteer opportunities at various organizations in Athens-Clarke and Oconee Counties.

CCRG volunteers with HandsOn throughout the year and encourages fans to do the same. For more information, visit their Web site at http://www.handsonnortheastgeorgia.org.
