NSO Officially Awesome Camp

Officially Awesome Alright everyone, it’s time to get pumped up for the NSO Officially Awesome Camp on March 1, 7:00 p.m. at Skate Around skating rink. For those unfamiliar, NSO is the abbreviation for "non-skating officials." Without these folks, our bouts would not be possible! Anyone wanting to be involved with the league and an awesome community should make plans to check it out. The commitment required is minimal--about 10 or so days a year--and NSOs get free admission to all home bouts! So, leave your skates at home and c’mon over! For questions or to sign up, please contact Psycho Deluxe at sponsorship@classiccityrollergirls.com.

Welcome aboard newbies!

2010 CCRG CCRG welcomed a bundle of new skaters last month when they hosted their bi-annual boot camp. Close to 40 skaters attended the camp, making it the best attendance on record! Girls from all skating levels attended the four boot camp sessions. They learned the basics of skating, falling safely, stopping safely, and how derby works. We have a dedicated group of fresh meat working hard after boot camp to hone their skills for the upcoming season. We are looking forward to adding some new blood to the team this year and are super impressed by these new ladies.

Look for your favorite newbies to be featured in the skater of the month profiles this season! And remember, CCRG is always recruiting new skaters! Contact Melony Fistdemeanor at recruitment@classiccityrollergirls.com for more information.

CCRG travels to Augusta

Soul City Sirens Six Classic City Rollergirls along with coach Slam Deluxe and ref Blaming Me headed to Augusta this month to scrimmage against the Soul City Sirens to get geared up for the 2010 season. CCRG had a strong showing the first half, and during the second half the teams blended together in mixed teams in derby camaraderie fashion. You can look forward to a re-match with the Sirens on June 5th in Athens.

AIDS Walk/Run Rescheduled

AIDS Walk Run 2010

Although the AIDS Walk/Run was snowed out, the league still raised funds for the local non-profit http://www.aidsathens.org/. AIDS Athens serves the needs of individuals infected and affected by HIV/AIDS through supportive services and to prevent the spread of the disease through education and outreach. The student organization that organizes the AIDS/WALK Run Athens http://www.aidswalkrunathens.org/ is rescheduling the event (TBA).
